By rushing Alpha Kappa Psi, you get to know the brothers of our chapter, as well as allow the brothers to get to know you. In order to be invited to pledge Alpha Kappa Psi, you must attend at least two rush events and the invitation only event. Alpha Kappa Psi is a co-ed professional fraternity, and accepts both men and women from all schools within Washington University. For information on our rush events, please visit our rush calendar.
Q. Who can join AKPsi?
A. AKPsi is a professional fraternity of committed brothers united by a collective interest in business. We encourage students in the Olin School of Business, as well as economics, math, and communications majors to rush our chapter.
Q. Can I rush AKPsi during the fall semester if I'm a freshman?
A. Washington University in St. Louis allows freshmen to rush professional fraternities during the fall semester.
Q. What is rush?
A. Rush is a series of events hosted by a Fraternity or Sorority to attract and recruit new members. Our Rush consists of Information Sessions, Professional Events, and Social Events. A person 'rushing' a fraternity or sorority is called a 'Rushee' or 'Prospective Member'.
Q. What is a pledge?
A. A pledge is a person who has accepted their bid, and undergone a ritual conducted by the fraternity. It is quite literally a 'promise' made by the individual to strive to become a full member of the Brotherhood.
Q. What do we do in AKPsi?
A. As a pledge, you will be exposed to a variety of different situations. Such activities include professional events, social outings, sporting events, philanthropy events, resume workshops, and many more. It is through these opportunities that a member can further improve on his/her abilities, both professionally and socially.
Q. Would I be able to join AKPsi considering the fact that I am in a social fraternity or sorority?
A. Yes! AKPsi currently has a healthy mix of members who belong to other Greek organizations and those who do not. Regardless of the situation you find yourself in, it is important to realize that AKPsi is a time commitment that cannot be overlooked. AKPsi events are not something you have to go to, they are something you will WANT to go to.
Q. If I am invited as a pledge into AKPsi, what type of time commitment is involved?
A. You are required to attend pledge class meetings once a week, in addition to a number of brotherhood events, professional events, and philanthopic events throughout the semester.
Q. What is an example of an AKPsi professional activity?
A. A professional activity is any event that develops one’s knowledge about business. This has included hosting guest speakers, discussion panels, resume workshops, recruiters, and yearly investing competitions.
